LFHS students named to leadership positions of Junior State of America

Lake Forest High School students were recently named to leadership positions of the Midwest Region of Junior State of America (“JSA”). JSA is the largest student-run youth organization that helps high school students acquire the leadership skills and knowledge necessary to be effective citizens and voters. Students organize every aspect of the organization, all the way from the chapter level to the multi-state level, where they plan and execute all of the conventions, conferences, and political awareness events held by the Junior State.

Ravi Mulani (Class of ’08) and Ellie Graham (Class of ’09) were elected last spring to the positions of Governor and Illinois Senator, respectively, of the Midwest Region. Since then, the Senior Leadership Cabinet has been named with Ben Arnstein (‘08) as Chief of Staff, Bobby Graham (‘08) as Publicity Director, and Nikhil Mulani (’10) as Virtual Outreach Director. Joe Arnstein (’10) will serve on the Junior Cabinet as Convention Analyst and an Expansion Officer. Other cabinet positions are held by members from chapters throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota.

The Midwest Region will plan three major events over the course of the school year. The Fall Convention will be held at the state capitol in Madison, WI, the Winter Congress in Washington, D.C. and Spring State at a location to be determined. Both the Fall and Spring State conventions will consist of debates, thought talks, and special activities. The Winter Congress will be structured like an actual Congress where students will be divided into Senate and House of Representative committees where they will pass and reject bills, depending on how well the debaters make and defend their arguments. For more information about JSA, please contact any of the cabinet members listed above.
