Director Kelly MacBlane announces
the selection of the annual musical: Thoroughly
Modern Millie. MTI describes the musical as :
Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie
tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the
city in search of a new life for herself. It’s a New York full
of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce
and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Based
on the popular movie, the stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie
includes a full score of new songs and bright dance numbers.
Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady
of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie
is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. And with the
role of Millie Dillmount, musical theatre has found a new heroine for
the ages in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
The musical won several Tony Awards. It was based on the earlier
film of the same name, starring Julie Andrews and Carol Channing.
In addition to Ms. MacBlane, the production staff includes Tim
Haskett as Vocal Director, Robert
Bassill as Orchestra Director, David
Miller as Co-Director/Producer, Ben
Davidson as Technical Advisor, Sandy
Ragsdale as Choreographer and several others.
Auditions begin January 27 for the production April
30, May 1 and 2.
After successful Junior/Senior performances
of Picnic and freshmen/sophomore performances of Thurber Carnival, students
interested in theater and performance can start looking ahead to our
next major production, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Mark your calendars
for auditions, which begin on Tuesday, January 27 with a vocal audition.
Auditions continue that week with the dance portion on Wednesday,
January 28, and acting auctions on Thursday,
January 29. Callbacks will be held
on Monday, February 2.
Interested students should plan on attending all three preliminary days
of auditions and will be notified if they are needed for callbacks. Anyone
who is interested in theater performance is encouraged to attend, no
matter what his or her skill level in acting, singing, or dancing might
be. Audition materials will be available in December.
