LFHS students began taking coach buses downtown in early
1980’s.
Getting students on the buses has turned into an "event" in
past 10 years (around 1998), including some of the following:
- • An actual red carpet was put down in 2005
• shelter prom-goers with umbrellas in case of rain
• There are different themes each year, decorated
accordingly from LFHS front doors to the actual venue
• Nearly 800 students attend the prom
and parents, community members, faculty and families all
watch the prom promenade from bleachers which are set up
on the front lawn
• Prom has been covered by local television station;
we also now make a DVD available for purchase for students
Project Safe Prom, introduced in 2002, focuses on raising
funds to support the use of bus transportation to and from
Prom. Not only current Lake Forest parents, but
also alumni parents and community members, have demonstrated
an impressive commitment to keeping our students safe. Additionally,
students from the junior class raise funds for this purpose. Our "red
carpet parade" is an even greater source of pride because
it is connected to a larger tradition of valuing our students
and appreciating our community.
