Thirty-eight girls from the JV Girls' Swimming and Diving team participated in the 4th annual "Hour for Power" relay celebrating Ted Mullin's life and raising awareness for sarcoma, the disease that took Ted's life at the young age of 22. Loud music, dancing and crazy relay swimming describes the one hour of continuous swimming. Eight girls took part in LF's first year participating; this year Lake Forest had 38 girls joining in. Thank you to all of the participating members of the Lake Forest High School JV Girls' Swim Team.

The Lake Forest High School girls' JV swim team participated in the Prairie-Lake Invite on Friday, November 6.
All the teams in the Lake conference participated at the meet. The Scouts came away victorious and were 1st or 2nd in every event except the 100 fly.  The Scouts outscored the other conference teams by at least 82 points.  The meet started off with a 1-2 finish in the medley relay and the ball started rolling from there.  Maia Brearton was a double winner in the 100 and 200 free.  Other individual champions were: Nina Demet - 200 IM, Kerry Wanner - 50 free, Grace Demet - 500 free, Norie Kaufmann - 100 back, and Valerie Heidbreder - 100 breast.  The 200 free relay--consisting of Maia Brearton, Annie Glynn, Valerie Heidbreder and Annie McCardle--finished with gold in the 200 Free Relay and the LFHS 400 Free Relay--with Nina Demet, Valerie Heidbreder, Kerry Wanner and Annie McArdle--came home with the gold.  Best times were posted and a good time was had by all.  Congratulations girls!!!

Last night, the Lake Forest High School Girl's Swimming and Diving competed against Mundelein High School and came away with victories in both the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. It was a fun night as we celebrated our seniors who have given their all and worked tremendously hard over the last four years. Courtney Carani (captain), Lilian Corona, Claire Donahue (captain), Diane Wang (captain), Emily Neal, Marie Ankeman, Sarah Jaekel, Holly Landan, Anna Zhou, and Adel Watel were honored during the diving break. A celebration dinner, skits and speeches put an explanation point on the whole evening. Congratulations seniors!
The JV Girl's Swim Team will be participating in the Ted Mullin "Leave it in the Pool" Hour of Power on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. The "relay" swims for one continuous hour, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and benefits the Ted Mullin Fund for Pediatric Sarcoma Research at The University of Chicago. Ted swam at New Trier High School and at Carleton College before he passed away way to soon. Scientists at The University of Chicago are thrilled to partner with the Mullin family, Carleton College and hundreds of swimmers across the country to raise awareness and support for sarcoma research. If you are interested in participating or donating to this great cause, please contact Cindy Dell at cdell@lfschools.net.
