Susan Gernert
Adams (1974):
Susan G. Adams is a National Producer for Dateline NBC, the news magazine program.
Ms. Adams graduated from
Colby College and is a four time Emmy Award winning television producer who
has traveled throughout the world for NBC and ABC News. Susan worked for
the 1988 Summer Olympics, Nightline, and PrimeTime Live. |
Barry J. Byrne,
M.D., Ph.D (1974):
Barry J. Byrne, M.D., Ph.D. is
the Virginia Root Sutherland Professor of Pediatrics. As a member of the Graduate
Faculty and Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and Director of
the Powell Gene Therapy Center, he is actively involved in laboratory research,
as well as a pediatric cardiologist involved in clinical care. His laboratory
has developed novel genetic therapies for cardiovascular disease, such as
a form of fatal cardiomyopathy
in children, known as Pompe disease. The disease is characteristic of many muscle
diseases which lead to skeletal and cardiac muscle weakness. He has used AAV
vectors to achieve sustained correction of the gene deficiency in Pompe disease
models and the strategy is being proposed for human clinical trials. He also
studies the use of cell therapy in the treatment of other cardiovascular conditions
both in adults and children with heart problems that are not treated by the usual
means. |

Mark A. McMahon
(1968):
Mark McMahon is one of America’s most versatile and successful artists.
His paintings and drawings are regularly exhibited in museums and galleries in
the United States and abroad, and have also appeared in print and video media.
His documentary paintings of the launching of the Space Shuttle for NASA have
been exhibited at the
Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution. His most prominent displays
are
in the Chicago area and include a ceramic tile mural
at the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center, a ceramic
tile mural at the corner of Van Buren and Federal Streets, and an 8’ x
110’ ceramic tile mural at Lake Forest High School Cafeteria and at the
McDonald’s restaurant on Waukegan Road in Lake Forest.

David Miller (1962):
David Miller presently serves as the Theatre Manager and the Faculty President
of the Cum Laude Society at Lake Forest High School. David was on the LFHS faculty
for 35 years as a Spanish teacher, Theatre Technical Advisor, and Director of
Telecom. He was a part of the original Telecom Faculty, creating the TV Production
and Animation Courses and was the advisor for the Auditorium renovation and the
David Miller Theatre construction. He was the school's original Webmaster and
helps coordinate and stage major school events. |
