Telecom offers study in the theory and
practice of television production, animation and stagecraft
to prepare the student to communicate in a variety of styles. To
become aware of the techniques employed in the educational,
corporate and mass media arenas, the television students work
with audio and visual media, including live and edited video,
animation and computer graphics. The courses feature
hands-on practice in the planning, acquisition and manipulation
of sound, video and computer generated sources, with emphasis
on preproduction planning and working successfully in a group
to achieve a desired communication goal. The stagecraft
students work with lighting, set, and sound design in practice
as well as on computer. Animation
students produce pieces in a variety of genres. Equipment
and techniques common in the related
industries are used in all offerings. Although the
courses provide a foundation of practical experience for entry
into university television, radio, animation and technical theater
programs, the curriculum provides the opportunity for students
to become familiar with and to evaluate the content and method
of each.
